iAudioguides is an another application to add in our Symbian mobile phone application category. The name of the application doesn’t completely reveal its functionality and purpose, yet it gives a general idea that it’s an audio guide about something. Well, iAudioguides provides mp3 files which are actually audio city guides and contains information about various places in the city.
The application was not specifically designed for the Symbian mobile phones but it is supported in these phones also. There are many mp3 files which are available as a free download and include cities such as Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, London, Paris, Rome and Vienna. Along with the audio files you also get a pdf map of the city in the package which is somewhere between 1.5 to 3MB.
The content contained in the audio files is a very nice combination of the contemporary situation and the historical significance and background. But at the same time, I feel that there is very less information available on each site and each topic. Each file is around 3-4 minutes and too being mp3 format. I personally feel a bit more elaboration is required on each topic but the idea is quite good and useful. The application is not actually a tour guide or rather a trip planner. It works like when you have reached your place of interest, just listen to the information about the place.
The most important factor that will keep the listeners glued to this application is the quality of the voice of the narrator which I feel is very appropriately chosen for this application. The voice is a delightful male baritone, you feel as if you are visualizing the speaker. I really can’t say if it’s worth downloading for everyone but for those it works, this is a really nice application.
